We Must Never Forget...

PROGRESS REPORTS WENT HOME THIS AFTERNOON 9/8/09 FOR ALL CONTENT AREAS! (students should also have one specfically for Social Studies detailing each graded assingment)

While this will be a short week, there are still many important topics to be covered this week.

Standard SS6G11 will be introduced this week and students will learn about some cultural aspects of Europe. We will examine the major languages and religions of the continent.

**********

On Tuesday the sixth grade will be listening to our President's address to the students of this nation. It will be an opportunity for students to reflect on their roles, today and tomorrow, in our great nation.

**********

We will also spend some time discussing the events of September 11, 2001 and how it has shaped to world around us today. While this topic is sensitive to all Americans, it is important that our children are given a forum to discuss, gain further understanding, and share how they feel. It is imperative that as a Nation we never forget that our Freedom is a gift, which is secured from threat and destruction by thousands of courageous men and women every day.

**********

Special note - Parents we are entering our fifth week of school and many of the students are not completing/turning in homework assignments. Progress reports will be coming home shortly, please follow up with your students about their progress. Students were also given a retest on SS6G8&SS6G9. Unfortunately many students did not study their old tests (corrected), notes, or maps and their retest grades were not much better. Retesting is not a normal occurrence in my classroom and will rarely happen; such opportunities should not be taken for granted. Please stress the importance of studying and preparedness to your student. Thanks again for all that you do~
