The END is UPON us! We have completed Unit 1!

LETTERS WENT HOME TODAY, 9-15-09, PROVIDING EACH STUDENT WITH THEIR OWN LOGIN TO THE WIKI PAGE. PLEASE LOOK FOR THESE LETTERS AND SECURE THEIR INFORMATION TO ENSURE THAT YOU WILL BOTH HAVE ACCESS TO THE WIKI. porteedrewcharter.wikispaces.com

Our students have completed their very first World Studies Unit! Over the course of the past five weeks we have examined the Geography of Europe. Your students should be able to locate various countries of Europe on a regional and world map, as well as several physical features. They should also be well versed in some of the environmental concerns currently surrounding the United Kingdom, Germany, and the affects of the accident in Chernobyl, Ukraine. Four countries, the United Kingdom & Russia and Italy & Germany, were used in small case studies. Students compared each set of countries location, climate, natural resources and how they impact where people live and trade in those countries. The cultural geography of Europe was also a key focus during this unit. We studied the main religions and languages of the continent, discovering how many share common roots and lineages.

I state all of this to you in hopes that you will continue to engage your students in conversation about Social Studies. Each student has been given a Unit 1 Checklist that entails all of the standards and elements they were responsible for learning during this unit. Please use this tool as a guide when studying for the Unit Test.

The Unit 1 - Geography of Europe Test will be on Thursday!

Please reinforce the importance of STUDYING with your student ~ there will be NO RETEST.

All notes for this unit are posted on the wiki, porteedrewcharter.wikispaces.com. The link to this site can be found in the tool bar on the right
