Age of Exploration to the Cold War

SS6H6 Test will be on Friday, October 2, 2009.

The Midterm Exam will take place on Thursday October 8, 2009. Please reinforce to your students the importance of studying for this exam as it is heavily weighted in their semester averages. This exam will be cumulative, encompassing Geography standards G8 - G10 as well the History Standards H6 & H7. Good Luck...start studying now!

As we have embarked on the journey to discover the history of Europe, our first stop is focused on the Age of Exploration. We will be discussing the contributions of Prince Henry the Navigator as well as the causes of exploration and colonization. Ultimately we will analyze how this time period leads into the nationalism and tangled alliances that cause WWI. World War II, the Holocaust, and Cold war are also topics that we will cover during this unit. We will close this unit with a trip to the Breman house in downtown Atlanta, where students will tour their Holocaust muesem and have the rare opportunity to speak with a Holocaust survivor. This is a rare and special occassion as the people from this time period are aging; please speak with your student about the significance of this trip (scheduled for 10-20-09).

Students are now free to post their first discussion posts (only to their specific class periods) on the wiki. Many students have been utilizing this technology to not only communicate with each other but to get study tips as well. I hope that they continue to communicate with each other more. As parents, in possession of their logins, I am going to ask that you go in to their accounts from time to time to ensure that they are not abusing the Wiki. Discussion questions are posted by class period and students will have until Thursday at 10:30 to write their response and post it.
