Unit 1 and Responsible Use of Technology

Unit 1 focuses on the Geography of Europe. We will begin by learning several main countries and physical features. Environmental concerns, culture and a comparative analysis of several countries will also take place during this initial unit. This introductory unit serves as an opportunity for students to get their feet wet using technology. Students will use the wiki page to respond discussion postings about the Environmental Concerns of Europe: Acid Rain, Air Pollution, and the Chernobyl Disaster.

This leads an important conversation that we must reinforce to our students about the responsible use of technology. Over the course of the school year students will have access to net books and the Internet. As a class we will talk about the importance of remaining on task and not using the Internet to gain access to websites we are currently not using in class. The vast technology resources that Charles R Drew Charter school makes available for student use must be treated appropriately and respectfully. Please take the time out to sit down with your student to share the importance of taking good care of the the technology we will use to promote learning.

Please view the video below with your student and engage in meaningful discussion about Internet use, responsibility, stewardship and even plagiarism.

Welcome to 6th Grade World Studies

Welcome to World Studies!

Welcome Back Students! You will very quickly learn that this course utilizes quite a bit of technology. Student will be given usernames and passwords to gain access to the class wiki site, where you will find homework assignments, discussion postings, and class notes. We will also be using study island throughout the year to further develop our mastery of new content.

Parents, as always we are going to hit the ground running. This blog will be used for you to preview not only what is coming in the weeks ahead but also as a resource for things we are currently doing in class. Our first unit, which is based on European Geography, will also incorporate some basic map and core skills. The European Geography link will take you to a website that is a great source of practice for your student.
